Name: Taylor Halvorsen
Intro: Hi! My name is Taylor, I’m 25 and from Milwaukee, WI, where I currently live with my boyfriend. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my whole life (and no, I never get used to the cold). I work in paid social media for a department store and (in non-pandemic times) love live music and exploring new restaurants and coffee shops. In the last year, I’ve gotten really into baking, Animal Crossing and being outside as much as possible!
City: Milwaukee, WI
IG Handle: @sustainabletay
My style is generally neutral, but with pops of color and pizzazz. I try to have fun with clothes whenever I can, but I naturally gravitate towards more timeless pieces. I also like to have a good balance of feminine clothing and more menswear-inspired pieces, depending on how I’m feeling each day!

I’ve always been into fashion and thrifting, but about 2 years ago I followed an artist who participated in a 10x10 Challenge, which is where you pick 10 items of clothing and wear them over 10 days ~ like a little exploration into a capsule wardrobe! That opened my eyes to what slow/sustainable fashion is and the amazing community on Instagram (and also that minimalism definitely wasn’t for me).
I originally posted my own 10x10 on my personal account, but then loved it so much that I created @sustainabletay to continue to share my own outfits, educate myself and virtually meet other cool people in the community. There is something so unique about the slow fashion community, because everyone is very supportive and kind.
I would say the Guide Coveralls because they make me feel so COOL when I wear them, but also the Shelter Cardigan because it’s so cozy and versatile.
I get most of my inspiration from other people I follow on Instagram! That’s where I learn about thriftable trends or slow fashion brands and just general styling tips. I love to save posts and recreate outfits. I also really like home decor and find inspiration to decorate my apartment from influencers/bloggers too!

Social media is a great place to start! I followed some really informative accounts early on and learned a lot about how our consumption can affect the environment. Some I recommend are: @fash_rev, @fashionforgood, @ecoage and @venetialamanna. Also checking out brands on Good On You helped me to learn a lot about what was considered “ethical” or “sustainable.” All in all, you’re not expected to be perfect! If you’re making an effort to live more responsibility, you’re doing a great job.
Thank you so much, Taylor!
